Kolkata: Renowned Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was seen supporting his IPL franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), during their match against Preity Zinta’s co-owned team, Punjab Kings, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday evening. Despite his presence, the Kolkata-based team faced defeat.
The official social media team of KKR shared a reel capturing King Khan watching the match alongside his son from the stands, accompanied by his manager, Pooja Dadlani.
Jonny Bairstow and Shashank Singh’s remarkable display of power-hitting propelled Punjab Kings to achieve the highest successful chase in T20 cricket history, securing an 8-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season on Friday.
KKR elected to field first, challenging Punjab Kings to surpass an imposing total, resulting in a record-breaking encounter. Punjab Kings made a flying start, with Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh aggressively piling on boundaries at the iconic Eden Gardens.
The initial six overs witnessed an exhibition of boundary-hitting prowess, with both batsmen collectively hitting seven sixes during the powerplay, setting the stage for a high-scoring match.
Prabhsimran departed on the last ball of the powerplay, but Punjab Kings maintained their aggressive intent. A brisk cameo from Rilee Rossouw (26) sustained their momentum, paving the way for Shashank Singh’s impactful innings.
Bairstow and Shashank combined forces, forging an unbeaten 84-run partnership that left KKR’s bowlers struggling to contain them. Shashank’s masterful strokeplay kept the Kolkata bowlers at bay, while Bairstow provided solid support.
With a single in the 19th over, Punjab Kings sealed their third win of the season with an 8-wicket triumph. Throughout the match, both teams’ bowlers found themselves helpless as a total of 252 runs were scored solely through sixes.
