Sharad Pawar Slams BJP Over Cryptocurrency Fraud Allegations Against Supriya Sule
Baramati: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for making allegations against his daughter, party MP Supriya Sule, regarding a cryptocurrency fraud. Pawar dismissed the accusations as baseless, pointing out that the IPS officer behind the complaint had a criminal background, having previously been incarcerated. He stated, “This is a classic example to show how low the BJP can stoop. There is no need to give importance to what that officer says.”
The allegations, which have caused a political stir, claim that Sule and Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole were involved in selling Bitcoin and using the proceeds in state Assembly elections. These claims were based on complaints filed by former IPS officer Ravindranath Patil, and BJP released audio clips and WhatsApp messages to support their accusations. However, both Sule and Patole have firmly denied the charges.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is involved in a direct electoral battle with his nephew Yugendra Pawar, called for an impartial inquiry into the matter, insisting that the voices in the alleged audio tapes belong to Supriya Sule and Nana Patole. In response, Sule rejected the allegations, stating that she would take legal action and file a defamation case against the BJP.
Sharad Pawar, in his statement, urged citizens to exercise their voting rights responsibly, highlighting the importance of voter participation in the upcoming elections. He also mocked Ajit Pawar’s prediction that the MahaYuti coalition would win 175 seats, suggesting that with such confidence, Ajit Pawar should have predicted 280 seats.
Addressing the recent attack on former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Pawar expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing that despite a history of peaceful elections in Maharashtra, the attack on Deshmukh was disturbing.
