New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday, asserting that his approach to appeasement politics revolves solely around fostering animosity towards Hindus, a sentiment shared by all members of the Opposition alliance.
Sitharaman made these remarks in response to Gandhi’s statement during a discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, where he took a swipe at the BJP. Gandhi’s assertion that those identifying as Hindus are perpetually immersed in “violence and hate” sparked strong protests from members of the ruling coalition.
Responding to Gandhi’s comments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervened, emphasizing that labeling the entire Hindu community as violent is a grave accusation. He underscored the principles of non-violence and fearlessness advocated by all religions and prominent figures, contrasting Gandhi’s characterization.
In her critique on social media platform X, Sitharaman condemned Gandhi’s remarks as indicative of the Congress party’s disdain towards Hindus and aligned with the sentiments of his coalition partners in the INDI Alliance. She further underscored Prime Minister Modi’s intervention as justified, highlighting concerns over the insensitivity of Gandhi’s statements.
Gandhi’s remarks in the Lok Sabha stirred considerable reaction from members of the ruling coalition, reflecting the charged atmosphere of the debate.
