Hyderabad: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured a decisive victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, overcoming setbacks in states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra with a strong showing in southern India, where it won approximately 50 MP seats. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) played a pivotal role in the south, securing 16 seats in Andhra Pradesh, bolstering the BJP’s performance. Despite initial expectations of a landslide victory, the NDA, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, secured just over 290 seats with its allies, while the Congress-led INDIA alliance garnered around 230 seats nationwide.
In Telangana, the BJP doubled its seat count to 8, significantly increasing its vote share, while in Karnataka, it and the Janata Dal (Secular) won 17 and 2 seats respectively out of 28. Kerala witnessed the BJP’s historic win in Thrissur, marking its first-ever seat in the state. With 49 seats in the south, except Tamil Nadu, the BJP-NDA coalition’s alliance with regional leaders like Naidu from Andhra Pradesh and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) from Bihar proves crucial for maintaining government stability, signaling a significant shift in national political dynamics.
