Supreme Court Hears Laddu Controversy: Justice Gavai Calls Contamination Allegations “Unacceptable”
The Supreme Court of India commenced hearings today on the contentious Laddu controversy, with proceedings starting at 10:30 AM. During the session, Justice Gavai, a member of the bench, made a significant statement regarding the implications of the case.
Justice Gavai emphasized the seriousness of the allegations surrounding potential contamination of the Laddu, stating, “Had something bad happened, it is unacceptable.” He highlighted the widespread impact on devotees, asserting that any issues related to food safety are of utmost concern.
“I examined the issue. One thing is clear. If there is any element of truth in this allegation, it’s unacceptable. Devotees are all over the country,” he remarked, expressing support for the Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the case.
The case revolves around allegations of adulteration involving ghee used in the preparation of the Laddu. Justice Gavai noted that an FIR had been registered, which includes claims that adulterated ghee was supplied in four tankers by the same supplier, ultimately leading to its use in the prasadam.
