Supreme Court to Hear Bail Plea of BRS Leader K Kavitha in Delhi Excise Policy Case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court is set to hear BRS leader K Kavitha’s bail plea on Tuesday in connection with a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. A bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan will likely review the matter.
On August 12, the apex court had requested responses from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding Kavitha’s appeals challenging a July 1 order by the Delhi High Court. The high court had denied her bail, labeling her as a key conspirator in the alleged criminal conspiracy surrounding the now-repealed Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.
Both the CBI and the ED have filed separate cases against Kavitha, alleging corruption and money laundering related to the policy’s formulation and execution. Kavitha, 46, was initially arrested by the ED on March 15 at her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Subsequently, she was arrested by the CBI on April 11 while being held in Tihar Jail in connection with the corruption case.
Kavitha has consistently denied all allegations against her.
