Suriya Shares Emotional Post Celebrating Father Sivakumar’s Artistic Achievement
Actor Suriya recently took to social media to express his deep pride and admiration for his father, Sivakumar, after the Indian Postal Department released a picture postcard album featuring the veteran actor’s paintings. The album, titled “Tamil Nadu 1960s”, was launched at the inaugural function of TANAPEX 2025 and includes paintings by Sivakumar that showcase iconic landmarks across Tamil Nadu.
In his emotional post, Suriya wrote: “Passion makes art timeless. My dad’s selfless love for watercolor and spot painting is now immortalized as postcards by the Indian Postal Department. Even more proud today Appa. #ActorSivakumar #PostCards #1960s.”
The postcards, issued by the Postmaster General of Chennai City Region, feature notable works by Sivakumar, including depictions of famous locations such as the Tanjore Big Temple (Brihadeeshwarar Temple), Mahabalipuram chariots, Trichy Rock Fort, the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, and more. These stunning visuals reflect his deep connection to Tamil Nadu’s heritage and his immense talent as an artist.
Sivakumar, who initially moved to Chennai with the ambition of becoming a renowned artist, later transitioned into acting, achieving success in both fields. His paintings have been widely appreciated, and now, with the release of the postcard album, his legacy as an artist has been further immortalized.
In a previous interview, Sivakumar shared the challenges he faced in his early days in Chennai, including financial struggles. Despite these hurdles, his passion for art remained unwavering. He recounted how, in 1961, he cycled with a friend to Mahabalipuram—56 kilometers away—to sketch the coastline. This spirit of perseverance and dedication to his craft is reflected in his timeless paintings.
Suriya’s tribute to his father highlights the deep respect and admiration he has for Sivakumar, both as an artist and a father. This honor by the Indian Postal Department is a testament to Sivakumar’s lasting impact on the world of art and the rich cultural legacy he has contributed to Tamil Nadu.
