Suryakumar Yadav Lauds High-Risk, High-Reward Style as India Clinches 4-1 Victory Over England
India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, was all praise for his team’s aggressive and instinctive approach after their commanding 4-1 victory over England in the five-match T20I series. The series was marked by standout performances, including Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 135 from 54 balls in the fifth T20I, and Varun Chakravarthy’s brilliant bowling that helped India dominate the visitors.
Sharma’s stunning knock helped India post an imposing total of 247/9, and Mohammed Shami’s brilliant 3-25 reduced England to a meager 87 runs, handing India a massive 150-run victory — their second-highest win by run margin. With England never close to chasing the daunting target, Surya entrusted part-timers Shivam Dube and Abhishek Sharma with the ball, and both responded by taking crucial wickets to seal the win.
Reflecting on the win, Suryakumar emphasized the importance of being instinctive as a T20 captain, highlighting the value of his team’s fearless and high-risk, high-reward mentality. “It’s always about being a little instinctive on the ground, whoever you feel might do something, throw them the ball,” said Surya in the post-match presentation. “This is what we’ve sat down and spoken about, the kind of brand of cricket we want to play. It’s a high-risk, high-reward game, but at the end of the day, we’re getting the results.”
Abhishek Sharma’s record-breaking performance, the second-fastest T20I century by an Indian, was especially memorable for the captain, who was pleased to see the left-hander achieve such success in front of his family. “I’m very happy for his family as well, they must have enjoyed his innings,” said Surya.
Suryakumar also praised the stellar performance of Varun Chakravarthy, who emerged as the most successful bowler of the series with 14 wickets. Acknowledging the spinner’s improvement in fielding, Surya mentioned how Chakravarthy had worked tirelessly with the fielding coach and was keen to take on new challenges. “He’s a process-oriented man [with the ball], always wants to work on something new,” said the India captain.
As the reigning World Champions, India maintained their T20I dominance, with a performance driven by instinct, courage, and determination.
