New Delhi: Following South Africa’s decisive nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the first semi-final, attention now turns to the upcoming T20 World Cup second semi-final between India and England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana scheduled for Thursday.
Led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian team aims to reach their first T20 World Cup final since 2014, having defeated Australia in their last Super Eight encounter on Monday. In the previous edition’s semi-final, India suffered a heavy 10-wicket defeat to eventual champions England in Adelaide.
However, concerns loom over the weather in Guyana, which could potentially disrupt this crucial match. The weather forecast predicts “thunder showers changing to heavy showers by late morning” on Thursday, with a 60 per cent chance of rain.
In the event of a washout, the India vs England semi-final lacks a reserve day but has been allotted an additional 250 minutes beyond the usual cut-off time to complete the fixture. According to tournament rules, a minimum of 10 overs per side is required to constitute a match. Should this criterion not be met, the team topping their Super Eight group advances directly to the final, favoring India in this scenario.
Furthermore, in case of a tie or inability to complete a Super Over due to weather or other reasons resulting in a no result, the team finishing first in their Super Eight group (Second Round Group) automatically progresses to the Final.
As per the latest weather updates, overcast conditions persist with an increasing probability of rain around the toss time.
The match is scheduled to commence at 8 pm IST barring any rain interruptions.
