BCCI to Propose Hybrid Model for Team India’s Participation in 2025 Champions Trophy Amidst Pakistan Venue Dispute
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised to propose a hybrid model to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for Team India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, sources revealed to IANS.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has put forth a proposal scheduling the ICC Champions Trophy from February 19 to March 9, 2025, with matches across Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. However, the PCB has steadfastly rejected the idea of a hybrid model specifically for India’s matches.
According to sources, the PCB has designated Lahore as Team India’s base for the tournament, including the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan encounter, citing security concerns.
India’s last visit to Pakistan dates back to the 2008 Asia Cup, and since then, bilateral encounters have been restricted to ICC or ACC tournaments. Recently, India triumphed over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage and subsequently secured their second title in the tournament.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will mark Pakistan’s solo hosting of a major international cricket event. Previously, Pakistan co-hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup with India and Sri Lanka and the 1987 Reliance Cup with India.
