Telangana SI Arrested for Accepting Rs 20,000 Bribe, Caught in ACB Sting Operation
A sub-inspector (SI) of the Varni police station in Nizamabad district, Krishna Kumar, was arrested by Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officers on Friday, November 8, for accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The bribe was allegedly paid in exchange for granting station bail to an individual arrested for physical assault.
The incident unfolded after the complainant, Nagaraju, a local farmer, was arrested by the Varni police on November 4 for his involvement in a physical altercation. According to ACB officials, SI Krishna Kumar initially demanded Rs 50,000 to grant Nagaraju bail. However, when Nagaraju could not afford the amount, he negotiated with the officer, who then reduced the bribe to Rs 20,000. Nagaraju agreed to the revised amount but decided to report the incident to the ACB.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Telangana ACB set a trap and apprehended SI Krishna Kumar while he was accepting the bribe. The officers caught the accused red-handed, leading to his arrest. A case was filed against Krishna Kumar, and he was produced before the ACB court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.
This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by the Telangana ACB to crack down on corruption within the state’s police force and public administration. The agency has been actively working to ensure accountability and transparency in law enforcement, with an emphasis on combating bribery and misconduct.
