Telangana Government Announces Plans for Future City and Major Developments
The Telangana government has unveiled ambitious plans to develop a Future City across 30,000 acres, strategically located between Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam Highways. This major decision was taken during the State Cabinet meeting held on Thursday.
The government has also decided to create the Future Development Authority (FCDA), which will cover seven mandals and 56 villages in the region. As part of the plans, 36 villages will be transferred from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to the newly formed FCDA. In line with this development, the Cabinet sanctioned 90 new posts for the FCDA, including both regular and outsourced roles.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy briefed the media after the meeting, highlighting several key resolutions. The Cabinet also approved the expansion of HMDA limits to encompass the Regional Ring Road. The updated HMDA jurisdiction will now cover 11 districts, 104 mandals, and 1,355 villages, with an additional 332 revenue villages being brought under its purview.
The Cabinet meeting further discussed the issue of constituency delimitation, expressing concerns over the potential imbalance in the allocation of Lok Sabha seats, particularly for South India. It was decided to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the matter and demand an increase in the number of seats allocated to South India.
The Cabinet also approved the draft bill for the sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes (SCs) based on the recommendations of the Justice Shamim Akhtar Commission. The bill, which is set to be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session, aims to address the needs and concerns of various SC sub-categories.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved a significant increase in reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies, raising it from 37% to 42%. Another Bill has been approved to extend this 42% reservation to BCs in education and government jobs.
In a move aimed at empowering women, the Cabinet decided to bring all Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under one umbrella, with an increase in the retirement age for SHG members from 60 to 65 years. It was also decided to lower the minimum age for joining SHGs from 18 to 15 years, with a target to make one crore women “lakhpatis.”
A new tourism policy was also approved, which will see the development of 27 special tourism zones across the state. The policy aims to attract an investment of Rs 15,000 crore in the next five years, potentially generating three lakh jobs in the tourism sector.
Finally, the Cabinet confirmed that Telangana will host the 72nd Miss World pageant from May 7 to May 31, 2025. The event will take place across multiple locations in the state, showcasing Telangana’s rich cultural heritage, modern infrastructure, and top-tier hospitality.
These progressive initiatives by the Telangana government mark significant steps toward both infrastructural growth and social empowerment in the state.
