Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is set to convene a review meeting on Wednesday at his Jubilee Hills residence to finalize the new state emblem.
Noted artist Rudra Rajesam, Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao, Professor Kodandaram, Addaki Dayakar, JAC leader Raghu, CM’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, MLAs, and other dignitaries will attend the meeting.
The new emblem, scheduled to replace the one adopted in 2014 during Telangana’s inception as the 29th state, will be unveiled during the 10th state formation day celebrations on June 2.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s decision to change the emblem stems from his belief that the current symbolizes past aristocracy and dictatorship. He aims for the new emblem to reflect the Telangana movement and honor the sacrifices of martyrs.
The decision has drawn criticism from BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR), who expressed dismay over the removal of symbols like the Kakatiya arch and Charminar from the new emblem. KTR’s remarks came in an open letter to the Chief Minister, posted on X on Tuesday, following Revanth Reddy’s assertion to eliminate monarchy references from Telangana’s official emblem.
The emblem change is among several decisions taken by the Congress government, including replacing ‘TS’ with ‘TG’ as the state abbreviation and modifying the Telangana Talli statue to better resonate with the sentiments of Telangana residents. Additionally, the government has adopted Ande Sri’s ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana’ as the state anthem and enlisted Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani to compose its music, set for unveiling on June 2.
