Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan on Monday amid speculation of an impending Cabinet expansion.
The meeting at Raj Bhavan was significant given the expected Cabinet expansion in the coming days.
Last week, the Chief Minister visited Delhi to discuss the expansion with senior Congress leaders. Reports suggest that five to six ministerial positions have been finalized, with several aspirants awaiting appointments for the past six months.
Revanth Reddy and his 11 Cabinet colleagues were sworn in on December 7, 2023. The state can have a maximum of 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister is believed to have briefed the Governor on the Bills to be presented in the upcoming Budget session. Additionally, the issue of nominated MLCs was reportedly discussed.
In March, the Telangana High Court nullified the nominations of M. Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan as members of the Telangana State Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota. The court also overturned the Governor’s orders dated September 19, 2023, which had rejected the nominations of BRS leaders Sravan Dasoju and K. Satyanarayana. These leaders had subsequently filed writ petitions challenging the Governor’s decision and, following the High Court’s order, appealed to the Governor for their appointments as MLCs.
