Telangana CM A. Revanth Reddy Urges Firm Action on Law and Order Issues Amid Tensions
Hyderabad: Amid ongoing tensions following an attack on BRS MLA P. Kaushik Reddy’s residence in Kondapur by supporters of defected MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender to address any attempts to disrupt law and order with firmness.
The Chief Minister emphasized that political conspiracies would not be tolerated and accused the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of attempting to tarnish Hyderabad’s reputation. He directed the DGP to ensure that troublemakers, irrespective of their influence, are dealt with sternly.
In response to the Chief Minister’s directive, the DGP convened a conference with the police commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda. The DGP underscored the need for strict enforcement of law and order in the Tri-Commissionerates and declared zero tolerance for any disturbances. He urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and stressed the importance of upholding the image of the Telangana police.
The conflict began when Gandhi, the MLA from Serilingampally in Greater Hyderabad, and his supporters visited Kaushik Reddy’s residence following a dispute over Gandhi’s recent appointment as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). The police have filed charges against Gandhi and his supporters for unlawful assembly, rioting, and trespass.
Additionally, a case has been registered against Kaushik Reddy for allegedly threatening a police officer during a confrontation at the Cyberabad Police Commissioner’s office.
In light of the escalating situation, police have increased security at the residences of Kaushik Reddy, Gandhi, and other prominent leaders. The BRS MLA’s threats of retaliatory action have prompted heightened vigilance and precautionary measures by law enforcement.
