Hyderabad Court Issues Summons to KCR and Officials Over KLIS Allegations
Hyderabad: A first-class magistrate court in Jayashankar Bhupalapally has issued summons to former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), former Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, and six senior officials to appear on September 5. This follows the court’s acceptance of a revision petition filed by Rajalingamurthy, who has demanded a thorough investigation into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).
In his petition, Rajalingamurthy alleges that KCR misused taxpayer funds amounting to Rs 1 lakh crore and accuses the previous BRS government of causing structural failures in the Medigadda barrage. He claims that despite his complaints to police and higher officials regarding the damage to the barrage, no action was taken.
The petition requests a detailed inquiry and action against KCR, Harish Rao, former Principal Secretary of the Irrigation Department Rajat Kumar, former CMO Secretary Smita Sabharwal, the then Chief Engineer, and representatives from Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL). Rajalingamurthy also alleges that the project’s costs were inflated, construction quality was substandard, and that soil testing was neglected. Furthermore, he claims that attempts were made to conceal technical details requested by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) concerning the Medigadda barrage’s construction.
