Telangana Enhances Women’s Safety Measures Following Recent Assault
In response to growing concerns over women’s safety following a recent assault on a female doctor in Kolkata, Telangana’s Women and Child Welfare Minister, Danasari Anasuya, commonly known as Seethakka, unveiled a series of new safety measures on Wednesday aimed at bolstering protection for women across the state.
During a high-level review meeting, Seethakka announced that the state government will allocate a dedicated budget for women’s safety initiatives within each department. This strategic move is designed to address and enhance safety protocols effectively.
The Minister outlined the establishment of women safety committees in all government departments. These committees will be tasked with producing comprehensive reports on necessary safety measures, which will be submitted to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Seethakka emphasized the government’s commitment to taking swift and decisive action in response to any incidents of violence against women in Telangana.
To address the rising concerns about safety, Seethakka also revealed plans to increase She-Team patrols at hospitals and medical colleges. Additionally, the installation of extra CCTV cameras in public areas and medical facilities will be prioritized to strengthen surveillance and deterrence.
A core committee, comprising ministers and senior officials, will be formed to oversee and implement these safety measures. Educational institutions have been instructed to ensure the safety of female students and encourage the use of the T-Safe App for added security.
The review meeting saw the participation of key officials, including Women Commission Chairperson Nerella Sharda, Women Cooperative Development Corporation Chairperson Bandru Shobarani, Women and Child Welfare Department Secretary Vakati Karuna, Commissioner Kanti Wesley, Women Safety DG Shikha Goel, and DIG Rema Rajeshwari.
These proactive measures reflect the Telangana government’s commitment to enhancing the safety and security of women in the state, ensuring that swift actions are taken to address any emerging threats.
