Earlier today, the Election Commission dealt a blow to JanaSena by designating the party’s dedicated glass tumbler symbol as a free symbol, available for use by any candidate in constituencies where JSP is not contesting.
This decision creates an opportunity for political candidates to potentially benefit from the branding associated with JSP and the efforts made by JSP supporters to promote the glass symbol. Surprisingly, an example of this exploitation has already emerged, with Telugu actress Sahithi Dasara being the beneficiary.
Sahithi Dasara, a young Telugu personality known for her appearances in films like “Polimera 2,” is running as an independent candidate in the Chevella parliamentary constituency in the Telangana elections. She has announced via Twitter that she has been assigned the glass tumbler symbol and has urged voters to support her. Leveraging the existing recognition of the glass symbol will likely bolster Sahithi’s election campaign in Chevella.
This development may signal a trend of other individual candidates similarly utilizing the glass tumbler symbol for their electoral endeavors.
