Actress Rashmika Mandanna, who headlines the much-anticipated film The Girlfriend, stepped in to support her director Rahul Ravindran on Saturday night after fans began trending #ReleaseTheGirlfriend on X (formerly Twitter), demanding more updates on the project.
With mounting curiosity and a growing sense of impatience, fans flooded social media seeking clarity on the film’s progress. The movement gained enough momentum to prompt director Rahul Ravindran to respond directly.
Quoting a post showcasing the trend, he wrote:
“Guys… there will be updates soon. Praamise. Please be a little patient.”
In a heartfelt move, Rashmika intervened to pacify her followers and offer a glimpse into the film’s unique essence. She posted:
“Hi my lovelies. I know we’ve been making you wait and your trend really is something else… but trust me, @23_rahulr is really working on it to give you the best output and it’s one of the most special kinds of films.
It’s a film where we speak about things we generally don’t talk much about. It’s a pure character-driven film and that’s the beauty of it. We promise you we want to give you the best, and it’ll be worth your while.
But because of today… for all the love you’ve shown us, we’ll just speed up the process and deliver it to you soonest!”
An Unconventional Tale with a Poetic Touch
The Girlfriend is not just another romantic drama. The film aims to explore deep and often unspoken emotions through a nuanced, character-driven narrative. It is being presented by veteran producer Allu Aravind and features Dheekshith Shetty alongside Rashmika in lead roles.
Earlier, to mark Rashmika’s birthday, the team released a teaser audio track titled ‘Reyi Lolothula’, composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab and sung by Hesham, Chinmayi Sripada, and Vijay Deverakonda. The lyrical depth of the track, penned by Rakendu Mouli, includes a poignant poem written by director Rahul Ravindran himself — offering fans a first taste of the film’s emotional tone.
Helmed by Rahul Ravindran, The Girlfriend brings together a talented crew with cinematography by Krishnan Vasant and music by Hesham Abdul Wahab, promising a blend of visual richness and evocative storytelling.
