Bollywood Film “Kill” Faces Piracy Challenges Amidst International OTT Release
The Bollywood film “Kill,” released on July 5, has surpassed expectations with significant profitability, prompting interest in its remake rights. However, its unexpected appearance on Amazon Prime in the US for $24 in Ultra HD, despite still running in Indian theaters, has inadvertently fueled piracy.
This move, intended for international viewers, has allowed piracy groups to exploit the film’s unavailability in India, uploading it to unauthorized sites. This situation mirrors past challenges faced by films like “Monkey Man,” which also saw rampant piracy after skipping an Indian theatrical release for an OTT debut abroad.
Director Nikilesh Nagesh Bhat’s “Kill,” produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, highlights the growing issue of piracy in today’s digital landscape. The staggered release strategy’s impact on the film’s theatrical prospects in India remains a concern, despite potential future availability on Amazon Prime in the country.
