Hyderabad’s Gongadi Trisha Selected for U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Squad
Hyderabad’s young cricketer Gongadi Trisha, who recently made a mark in the Women’s Asia Cup, has been selected for the final squad of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Along with Trisha, Kesari Dhrithi and Shabnam have also earned spots in the 15-member squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This marks a significant achievement, as three players from Telugu-speaking states have made it to the final team.
The squad, led by captain Nicky Prasad and vice-captain Sanika Chalke, will compete in the upcoming tournament in Kuala Lumpur, scheduled to take place from January 18 to February 2. India’s group-stage fixtures include matches against the West Indies on January 19, Malaysia on January 21, and Sri Lanka on January 23.
Trisha’s selection follows her outstanding performance in the recently concluded Women’s U19 Asia Cup, where she scored a half-century and was awarded Player of the Match. Kesari Dhrithi and Shabnam, hailing from Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam respectively, have also been chosen for their strong performances in the domestic circuit.
The squad includes two wicketkeepers—Kamilini G. and Bhavika Ahire—along with three standby players: Nandana S., Aira J., and Anadhi T. This selection highlights the growing prominence of women’s cricket in the Telugu states and the talent emerging from the region.
