Title: Public Discontent Grows as Trump’s Approval Ratings Decline
United States President Donald Trump’s popularity has seen a significant decline, with his approval ratings falling to a low point since he assumed office. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that only 42 percent of Americans support his administration’s policies, a drop from 43 percent recorded just three weeks ago, and well below the 47 percent approval he had on his inauguration day, January 20.
The poll reflects a growing perception that President Trump is overstepping his presidential powers. Early in his presidency, Trump signed several executive orders targeting federal departments and other institutions, including universities. A majority of respondents in the survey expressed concern that these actions represented an abuse of presidential authority.
The survey results also highlighted a broad public belief that presidential powers should be carefully limited. An overwhelming 83 percent of those polled agreed that even if the president disagrees with federal court rulings, he must respect and follow the law.
One of the more contentious proposals from the Trump administration was the suggestion to cut funding to universities that he believed were not addressing issues like anti-Semitism on campuses. The proposal has been met with widespread opposition, with 57 percent of respondents opposing it, including a significant portion of Republican voters. Additionally, 66 percent of those surveyed believed the president should not have unchecked control over major institutions like universities.
The poll further found dissatisfaction with Trump’s handling of several critical issues, including immigration, inflation, taxes, and the rule of law. While immigration has traditionally been a strong point for Trump, public support on this issue has become more divided, with 45 percent in approval and 46 percent in opposition.
Despite his approval ratings still being higher than some of those seen during former President Barack Obama’s tenure, the latest data reveals increasing public concern about President Trump’s recent actions and governance.
