Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin Criticizes Centre Over Mamata Banerjee’s NITI Aayog Speech Incident
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has strongly condemned the Centre following an incident at the recent NITI Aayog meeting where West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that she was unfairly interrupted during her speech.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Stalin questioned, “Is this #CooperativeFederalism? Is this the way to treat a Chief Minister? The Union BJP government must understand that opposition parties are an integral part of our democracy and should not be treated as enemies to be silenced. Cooperative Federalism requires dialogue and respect for all voices.”
Banerjee had claimed that her microphone was cut off after five minutes, whereas other Chief Ministers were allowed to speak for longer periods. The central government has countered these claims, asserting that Banerjee’s allotted speaking time had simply expired.
Stalin’s comments highlight ongoing tensions between state leaders and the central administration, emphasizing the need for respectful and equitable treatment in federal interactions.
