New Delhi: The government has issued updated directives to mobile service providers aimed at reducing spam calls and messages.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has instructed mobile service providers to improve their mobile applications and web platforms for easier registration of complaints regarding unsolicited commercial communication (UCC).
Under the new guidelines, mobile service providers must ensure that options for registering UCC complaints and managing user preferences are readily accessible on their mobile apps and websites.
“The registration process for complaints should also streamline essential details, contingent upon user consent to access their call logs and pertinent data,” stated the telecom regulatory body.
Additionally, TRAI has revised the formats for performance monitoring reports (PMRs). Going forward, all mobile service providers are mandated to submit these reports on a monthly basis, replacing the previous quarterly reporting cycle, as per the Ministry of Communications.
Earlier this month, TRAI allocated 160 mobile phone series exclusively for transactional and service voice calls by entities regulated under RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, and PFRDA. This initiative aims to enhance caller identification and prevent fraudulent activities targeting citizens.
