Hyderabad: Minister Reddy Emphasizes Efficient Paddy Procurement in Telangana
Minister for Civil Supplies N Uttam Kumar Reddy has stressed the importance of an efficient paddy procurement process across Telangana, addressing officials during a recent video conference with District Collectors. He highlighted that of the planned 7,572 purchase centers, 4,598 are currently operational, aimed at procuring nearly 1.5 crore tonnes of grain as significant quantities begin to arrive.
Procurement Planning and Financial Allocation
The Minister reported an anticipated production of 150 lakh tonnes this season and noted the state’s allocation of Rs 20,000 crore for procurement, while the total requirement is estimated at approximately Rs 30,000 crore. In light of recent untimely rains, he called for enhanced infrastructure at procurement centers to reduce crop losses and empowered District Collectors to take immediate action as needed.
Enhancing Processing and Mill Cooperation
To facilitate a smoother processing experience, Minister Reddy sought cooperation from millers and announced an increase in milling charges. The charges will rise from Rs 10 to Rs 50 per quintal for fine varieties and from Rs 10 to Rs 40 for common varieties.
New Security Measures and District Collector Responsibilities
The Minister also introduced new security protocols requiring a 10% bank guarantee from reliable millers and a 20% guarantee from those with prior defaults. He tasked District Collectors with promptly addressing any procurement-related issues in collaboration with the Civil Supplies Commissioner.
Additionally, Collectors are encouraged to utilize intermediary godowns for storing procured paddy in case of delays in stock transfers by millers. The state has prepared godowns with a total capacity of 30 lakh tonnes to effectively manage any contingencies that may arise.
This proactive approach aims to ensure a seamless procurement process and safeguard the interests of farmers in Telangana.
