Uttam Kumar Reddy Predicts MVA Landslide Victory in Maharashtra Assembly Elections
Hyderabad: Telangana’s Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister, Capt. N Uttam Kumar Reddy, has confidently predicted a landslide victory for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Campaigning in support of MVA candidates in Jalna and Phulambri on November 6, Uttam Kumar Reddy, who serves as the AICC senior observer for the Marathwada region in Maharashtra, highlighted the overwhelming wave of support for the alliance in the region.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, drawing attention to the MVA’s strong performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections—where it won 31 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra—asserted that the alliance’s popularity and approach resonate with voters. He further predicted that the MVA, which comprises Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT faction), and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar, would secure over 200 seats in the state Assembly polls.
Congress’s Track Record of Delivering on Promises
Emphasizing the Congress party’s history of fulfilling its promises, Uttam Kumar Reddy pointed to the success of Congress-led governments in states like Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, noting that the Telangana government had already delivered on six key commitments made to the people. He assured Maharashtra’s voters that the MVA alliance would similarly honor its promises, particularly on restoring democratic values and ensuring the welfare of the people.
Criticizing Eknath Shinde’s Government
Uttam Kumar Reddy also took the opportunity to target the Eknath Shinde-led government in Maharashtra, accusing it of betraying the public’s trust. He criticized the BJP for its alleged tactic of “breaking up parties and toppling elected governments,” a strategy he claimed is deeply unpopular among the people of India and one that will backfire on the BJP and its allies in the upcoming elections. Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized that the MVA’s previous government, under Uddhav Thackeray, had stood firm on secularism and democratic values before being brought down. He argued that an MVA victory would not only restore democracy but also safeguard secularism in Maharashtra.
Focus on Caste Census and Social Justice
Another significant point raised by Uttam Kumar Reddy was Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent push for a nationwide caste census, particularly in light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s refusal to support such a move. During his address in Hyderabad, Rahul Gandhi had questioned the Prime Minister’s silence on the issue of caste-based inequality, and Uttam Kumar Reddy echoed these concerns. He asked, “Why does PM Modi refuse to support a nationwide caste census?” emphasizing Congress’s commitment to addressing social inequalities and promoting social justice.
“Rahul Gandhi’s call for a caste census in Telangana isn’t just a formality. It is a firm step toward creating a fair and inclusive governance system that supports Dalits, Adivasis, women, OBCs, and minorities,” Uttam Kumar Reddy stated. He stressed that understanding the real picture of these social inequalities is crucial for making genuine progress in India.
MVA’s Manifesto and Guarantees for Maharashtra
Uttam Kumar Reddy also outlined the five key guarantees that Rahul Gandhi announced as part of the Congress manifesto for Maharashtra:
- Rs 3,000 monthly support for women and free bus travel under the Mahalakshmi Yojana.
- Rs 3 lakh loan waiver for farmers and a Rs 50,000 bonus for those who repay loans on time.
- A statewide caste census and a push to remove the 50 percent reservation cap.
- Health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh with free medicines.
- Up to Rs 4,000 monthly support for unemployed youth.
Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized that the Congress-led governments in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana had successfully delivered on their promises, and he assured the people of Maharashtra that the MVA alliance would do the same.
