In a significant development, a police investigation has revealed that former MLA and YSR Congress Party leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan orchestrated the kidnapping and intimidation of a key witness to manipulate testimony in the Gannavaram TDP office attack case.
According to the chargesheet filed by Central ACP Damodar at the SC and ST Special Court in Vijayawada on Monday, Vamsi and his associates abducted complainant Sathyavardhan from Ballemvariveedhi, a locality in Ramavarappadu, on February 11. The objective, investigators say, was to forcefully alter Sathyavardhan’s testimony to favor the accused.
The chargesheet reveals that Vamsi not only threatened Sathyavardhan with dire consequences—including threats to his family—but also subjected him to caste-based abuse. Under duress, Sathyavardhan was coerced into signing a sworn affidavit retracting his complaint. He was then made to appear before a magistrate, where he falsely testified under pressure that he was not present during the TDP office attack and had no knowledge of the incident.
Investigators say that after this forced testimony, Sathyavardhan was taken to Vamsi’s residence at My Home Bhooja apartments in Hyderabad, where he was allegedly tortured throughout the night. The next day, he was transported to Visakhapatnam and held at Hotel Chandana. Later, he was moved to the residence of another accused, Chebrolu Srinivas.
The police have identified several individuals involved in this criminal conspiracy, including Potti Ramu, Velpuri Vamsi, and M. Venulu, who played key roles in moving Sathyavardhan across cities in a Creta SUV bearing registration number AP 40BG 5005.
CCTV Evidence Strengthens the Case
CCTV footage has become a critical element in the case. Visuals from Vamsi’s Hyderabad apartment complex show the suspect vehicle arriving at 12:01 AM on February 11. Just minutes later, Sathyavardhan is seen being escorted into Vamsi’s flat. Additional footage from Bay Front Jewel Apartments and Chebrolu Srinivas’ residence in Visakhapatnam further corroborates the timeline established by the investigators.
CCTV captures from toll gates on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway also trace the movement of the vehicle used in the abduction.
History of Criminal Allegations
The chargesheet outlines a disturbing pattern. Vamsi faces a total of 17 criminal cases across multiple police jurisdictions including Ungutur, Gannavaram, Hanuman Junction, Patamata, and Aathkur. Other accused also have pending cases—A2 with 11, A3 with three, A4 with two, A5 with three, and A8 with four.
The revelations have sent shockwaves through political and legal circles, raising serious questions about political coercion, abuse of power, and the protection of witnesses in sensitive cases.
