Shikhar Dhawan Announces Retirement from All Forms of Cricket
New Delhi: Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket, concluding a distinguished career that saw him last represent the national team two years ago.
The 38-year-old Dhawan made his international debut in 2010 with an ODI against Australia in Visakhapatnam. Reflecting on his career, he expressed contentment and gratitude, stating, “As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!” He further emphasized the importance of moving forward, stating, “It’s important to turn the page to move forward in life and that’s why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. I am leaving with peace in my heart that I played so long for India.”
Throughout his career, Dhawan appeared in 34 Test matches, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. His most prolific format was One Day Internationals, where he scored 6,793 runs at an average of 44.11. In Test cricket, he accumulated 2,315 runs at an average of 40.61. Dhawan’s contributions to Indian cricket have been significant, and his retirement marks the end of an era for one of the sport’s prominent figures.
