Vijayashanti Urges Central Government to Consider Telangana’s Contribution for Padma Awards
Congress leader and actress Vijayashanti has voiced her disappointment with the central government’s announcement of the Padma Awards, expressing that Telangana deserved more recognition. In a tweet, she highlighted that the state should have been awarded at least four Padma Awards, adding that the BJP-led central government should take Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s opinion into serious consideration.
Vijayashanti pointed out that with two Union Ministers and eight BJP MPs from Telangana, the party should reflect on the matter and review the Chief Minister’s perspective. She further stressed that the state had earned more recognition for its contributions in various fields, implying a need for a more balanced representation in the Padma Awards.
This year, seven Telugu personalities were honored with the prestigious awards, but only two were from Telangana. Dr. Duvvuru Nageshwar Reddy received the Padma Vibhushan for his significant contributions to medicine, while Manda Krishna Madiga was awarded the Padma Shri for his work in public affairs. Meanwhile, from Andhra Pradesh, actor Nandamuri Balakrishna received the Padma Bhushan, and four other individuals were honored with the Padma Shri.
