Police Involvement in Telangana Minister’s Birthday Raises Concerns
Hyderabad: Recent visuals showing Warangal police officers, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nandiram Naik, participating in the birthday celebration of Telangana Minister for Forests and Environment, Konda Surekha, have sparked controversy. The event, which featured cake-cutting and a speech by the ACP, has led to questions regarding the adherence to police service rules and the principle of political neutrality.
The presence of other police personnel, including a Circle Inspector (CI) and additional staff, at the political function has drawn criticism. The celebration reportedly escalated into chaos when firecrackers were set off by the minister’s supporters, resulting in injuries to several attendees, including a young girl.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has called for an explanation from the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the incident. In a post on X, he questioned whether recent changes to service rules allowed police officers to engage in political events. “Were the service rules changed recently @TelanganaDGP? Please provide clarification as I demand an answer as a legislator,” Rama Rao stated.
The incident has raised broader concerns about the involvement of law enforcement in political activities and the potential implications for police impartiality.
