YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Criticizes Chandrababu Naidu’s Government Over Financial Mismanagement and Policy Failures
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and president of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has once again launched a strong attack on the leadership of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and current Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Speaking at the YSRCP headquarters in Tadepalli on Thursday, Jagan reiterated his previous warnings to the public, comparing trusting Naidu to “putting one’s head in a tiger’s mouth,” further claiming that voters should be cautious about Naidu’s promises. He also compared the act of trusting Naidu to “waking up Chandramukhi,” referencing the legendary ghost from Indian folklore, a metaphor suggesting disaster.
Jagan’s scathing remarks came in response to what he described as the financial destruction faced by the state under Naidu’s leadership. He alleged that within just nine months of the coalition government, Andhra Pradesh has suffered severe financial setbacks, setting records for accumulating debt. Jagan highlighted that the state’s budgetary borrowings had reached a staggering ₹80,000 crore during this period.
Breaking down the financial details, Jagan accused the government of borrowing ₹52,000 crore for the Amaravati project, ₹8,000 crore through Markfed and Civil Supplies, and ₹5,000 crore via APMDC. In total, he alleged that the government had accumulated ₹1.45 lakh crore in loans. Jagan questioned how these loans were being spent, specifically criticizing the government for failing to implement the welfare schemes that were promised despite the significant debt incurred.
Allegations of Discontinuing YSRCP Welfare Schemes
Jagan also criticized the current administration for halting several key welfare schemes introduced during the YSRCP’s tenure. He named several programs, including Matsyakara Bharosa, Kapu Nestham, EBC Nestham, Jagananna Chedodu, Law Nestham, Rythu Bharosa, and Vasathi Deevena, all of which he claimed had been discontinued by Naidu’s government.
In his address, Jagan went further to accuse the government of deceiving volunteers and failing to provide new job opportunities for the state’s citizens. He cited the dismissal of 2.6 lakh village and ward volunteers, as well as 18,000 employees of the Andhra Pradesh Beverages Corporation, as evidence of the government’s failure to deliver on its promises.
Criticism of Government Policies on Employees
The former Chief Minister also turned his attention to the treatment of government employees under Naidu’s leadership. Jagan accused the administration of pressuring the chairman of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) to resign and misleading employees with false claims regarding Interim Relief (IR). He pointed out that three Dearness Allowances (DA) payments were still pending for government employees and dismissed the government’s claims of timely salary payments as untrue. “This is what financial destruction looks like,” Jagan remarked, emphasizing the mismanagement he believes has plagued the state.
