Andhra Pradesh Assembly Budget Session Begins Amidst Disruptions by YSRCP Members
The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly budget session commenced with significant disruptions, as YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) members staged an intense protest against the proceedings. The disruption occurred as Governor S. Abdul Nazeer began his address to a joint session of both the legislative houses.
As the Governor took the stage, YSRCP legislators immediately raised slogans and entered the Speaker’s podium in a clear attempt to interrupt his speech. The protesting members raised their voices demanding the protection of democracy and official recognition of the YSRCP as the principal opposition party in the state.
Despite the raucous protests from the opposition members, Governor Nazeer remained undeterred and continued with his address to the assembly. The protest persisted for nearly 11 minutes, with YSRCP members chanting slogans and creating chaos in the House. During this time, party president and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with other YSRCP legislators, made their exit from the Assembly.
The walkout of the YSRCP members resulted in the session proceeding with only the ruling coalition members present. The absence of the opposition members left the House devoid of any meaningful discourse from the opposition side, signaling a tense start to the budget session.
This dramatic start to the session reflects the ongoing tensions between the ruling YSR Congress Party and the opposition, which has been at the center of political debates in the state. The session is expected to witness further political exchanges as discussions on the state budget unfold.
The walkout by YSRCP members points to the party’s continued dissatisfaction with their lack of recognition as the principal opposition, despite their substantial representation in the Assembly. As the session progresses, it remains to be seen how the ruling party and the opposition will navigate these tensions in the coming days.
