Canada: Indian player D Gukesh created history by winning the title in Candidates Chess Tournament held in Canada. At the age of just 17, he set the record as the winningest player. By the 13th round, he was leading alone with a total of 8.5 points. He drew the 14th round against American Hikaru Nakamura. With this, 9 points were added to his account. On the other hand, the match between Nepomniashi (Russia) and Fabiano Caruana (USA) was also drawn. Both of them tied for second place with 8.5 points. With this, Indian young chess player Gukesh won the title.
After chess legend Viswanathan Anand, Gukesh became the second Indian player to win the FIDE Candidates title. With this victory, Gukesh qualified for the World Championship title fight with Chinese Grandmaster Ding Liren. If he succeeds in that too, he has a chance to create a record as the youngest player to win the championship. In the past, Magnus Carlsen and Kasparov became champions at the age of 22.
