Paris – Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez has made headlines at the Paris 2024 Olympics by competing while seven months pregnant. The 26-year-old athlete, participating in her third Olympic Games, shared her remarkable experience on Instagram following her match on July 29.
Hafez won her opening bout against American fencer Elizabeth Tartakovsky with a close score of 15-13. However, she was eliminated in the Round of 16 by South Korea’s Jeon Hayoung, who secured a 15-7 victory.
In her Instagram post, Hafez expressed her pride and joy, reflecting on the significance of her Olympic journey. “What appears to you as two players on the podium, they were actually three! It was me, my competitor, & my yet-to-come to our world, little baby!” she wrote.
She candidly discussed the challenges of balancing pregnancy with competitive sports, describing it as a strenuous yet rewarding experience. “The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life & sports was nothing short of strenuous, however worth it,” she noted.
Hafez also extended her gratitude to her husband, Ibrahim Ihab, and her family for their unwavering support throughout her journey. She described this Olympic experience as uniquely special, highlighting that she was “carrying a little Olympian” with her.
