JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna Arrested Upon Return from Germany Amid Sexual Abuse Allegations
Bengaluru: Prajwal Revanna, the suspended JD(S) MP facing serious allegations of sexual abuse, was arrested on Friday upon his arrival from Germany, where he had been staying for over a month following the circulation of explicit videos purportedly showing his actions in Karnataka’s Haasan district.
In a deliberate move by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the case, a team of women police officers greeted Prajwal Revanna upon his arrival to execute a warrant, escorting him to the CID office for interrogation.
Despite evading earlier summons, the 33-year-old grandson of JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda arrived in Bengaluru from Munich past midnight and was promptly arrested by the SIT. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed that legal proceedings are underway following his arrest.
Prajwal’s legal counsel emphasized his full cooperation with the SIT and urged against prejudicial media coverage. “Prajwal has returned to Bengaluru to fully cooperate with the investigation. He requests fair treatment and urges against a trial by media,” stated his advocate, Arun G.
The arrest was executed by an all-woman police team, a symbolic gesture highlighting the seriousness of the allegations and the authority of women in law enforcement. Prajwal was subsequently escorted under tight security to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for medical examination.
The SIT is contemplating further legal actions, including a potency test, as part of the ongoing investigation into multiple accusations of sexual assault against Prajwal. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also issued a show-cause notice regarding his diplomatic passport, pending cancellation requested by the Karnataka government.
JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda has unequivocally distanced himself and the party from Prajwal’s actions, emphasizing that justice must prevail if allegations are substantiated. His grandson’s suspension from the party remains in effect amidst the unfolding legal proceedings.
