New Delhi: AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, whose interim bail expires on June 1, expressed a composed outlook regarding the possibility of returning to Tihar Jail, viewing it as part of his ongoing struggle to safeguard the nation.
Kejriwal, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam, was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on May 10 to participate in campaigning for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
In an interview with PTI Videos, the Delhi chief minister disclosed that his nearly one-month incarceration in Tihar Jail had a profound impact on him, having read the ‘Gita’ twice during that period, which he claimed had a transformative effect on his perspective.
“I feel no tension or anxiety. If I have to go back, I consider it part of my struggle to save the country,” he remarked when asked about the prospect of returning to Tihar.
Reflecting on his time in confinement, Kejriwal recalled delving into three to four books, including the ‘Gita’, the ‘Ramayana’, and political histories of the country.
He alleged constant surveillance during his stay, stating, “Imagine being monitored 24/7 through CCTV cameras by 13 jail officials and even by the PMO. There was no moment of relaxation.”
Kejriwal also addressed the issue of electoral bonds, asserting that should the INDIA bloc come to power, an investigation into what he called “the biggest scam of independent India” would be initiated.
Regarding accusations leveled against AAP by the BJP, including allegations of Khalistani links and receiving foreign funds, Kejriwal dismissed them as baseless and absurd.
Responding to concerns about AAP’s future amidst legal challenges, Kejriwal emphasized the importance of unity among opposition parties to safeguard the nation, stating, “The party is not important; the country must be saved.”
When queried about AAP’s alliance prospects with the Congress for the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, Kejriwal affirmed his party’s commitment to doing whatever is necessary to protect the country.
