Gautam Gambhir Appointed Head Coach of Indian Cricket Team
Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Gautam Gambhir, former opener and 2011 ODI World Cup-winner, as the new head coach of the senior men’s team. BCCI secretary Jay Shah revealed this appointment via social media on Tuesday, marking Gambhir’s succession of Rahul Dravid in the coveted role.
Shah expressed confidence in Gambhir’s capability to navigate the modern cricket landscape, citing his extensive experience and understanding of the game. The appointment, endorsed by the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik, positions Gambhir to lead Indian cricket forward with a clear vision.
Responding to his appointment, Gambhir reaffirmed his commitment to serve India, emphasizing his goal to make the nation proud. As a key figure in the 2011 World Cup triumph and recent successes with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gambhir brings a wealth of leadership and strategic acumen to his new role.
Previously a Member of Parliament and team mentor for KKR and Lucknow Super Giants, Gambhir’s leadership credentials include guiding KKR to IPL titles in 2012, 2014, and 2024.
