Hyderabad: On Saturday, April 27, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lodged a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Police, Hyderabad, and the Election Commission (EC) against the Telangana Congress for disseminating an allegedly doctored video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks regarding reservations.

The complaint cited the actions of TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy and his social media team as potentially infringing upon the provisions of the Information Technology Act by engaging in the “morphing/fabricating” of Shah’s speech.

The BJP’s complaint highlighted a video post shared on Twitter by the TPCC social media account, which allegedly depicted a manipulated version of Shah’s statement. The original statement purportedly referred to the BJP’s stance on canceling what it deemed as unconstitutional Muslim reservations, while ensuring rights for SC/ST and OBC communities in Telangana. However, according to the BJP, the video shared by the TPCC president on Twitter was altered to convey a different message, suggesting the cancellation of reservations for SC/ST and OBC groups.

The BJP condemned this action as deliberate and mischievous, aimed at misleading the public and instilling fear among OBC communities. Consequently, the party urged for appropriate action to be taken against the leaders of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Party.

In addition to filing a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police, the BJP also submitted a written complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner in Hyderabad, accusing the TPCC president of fabricating and manipulating Shah’s speech. The party noted that the doctored video was removed from the TPCC’s Twitter account subsequent to its dissemination.
