Karnataka Home Minister Addresses Building Collapse and Political Developments
Bengaluru: On Thursday, October 24, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara provided updates on the tragic collapse of a building in the Babusapalya locality, where eight individuals have been confirmed dead and several others remain unaccounted for. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has raised serious concerns about safety and unauthorized construction practices in the area.
Building Collapse Incident
Minister Parameshwara stated, “There is an incident of an unauthorized house collapse in which eight persons were killed. We don’t know how many are trapped inside the building.” He noted that many of the workers, including supervisors responsible for bringing in laborers from various regions, were likely caught in the debris, complicating rescue efforts. As of now, 13 people have been rescued from the site, with six suffering injuries requiring hospitalization.
The ongoing heavy rains in Bengaluru have exacerbated the situation, creating additional challenges for rescue operations. Parameshwara commented on the deteriorating conditions across the city, highlighting the difficulties faced by both residents and media personnel trying to report on the unfolding crisis. “The predictions by the weather departments say that the heavy rain will continue till Saturday. The government and the BBMP are taking the necessary steps,” he assured.
Response to Political Issues
In addition to discussing the building collapse, Parameshwara addressed questions regarding the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) appeal for the cancellation of bail for former minister B. Nagendra, who is embroiled in a multi-crore scam related to the Valmiki Tribal Welfare Board. The Home Minister emphasized the importance of awaiting the court’s decision before determining the next steps, stating, “If the court accepts their petition, again action will be taken against him.”
Political Landscape and Party Dynamics
Commenting on the recent political maneuver involving BJP leader C.P. Yogeshwara, who has been fielded as the Congress candidate for the Channapatna constituency, Parameshwara welcomed the decision, stating it would strengthen the party. He remarked, “He has carried out good work in the constituency. We have to win the seat and strategies will be made to achieve it.”
Responding to criticisms from the BJP regarding the Congress party’s candidate selection, Parameshwara reminded observers that political affiliations are fluid, saying, “In politics, there are no permanent enemies and no permanent friends.” He pointed to the recent election trends across the country, emphasizing the increasing frequency of party switching among politicians.
