Bumrah Reclaims Top Spot in ICC Test Bowling Rankings After Stellar Performance Against Australia
India’s fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has reclaimed the top position in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings following a sensational performance in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Perth. Bumrah’s eight-wicket haul, including a match-winning five-wicket performance in the first innings, earned him the Player of the Match award and propelled him back to the pinnacle of Test cricket bowling. With a career-high 883 rating points, Bumrah overtook South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood to seize the No. 1 spot. This marks his third time at the top of the rankings this year, having previously held the position in February and October.
In addition to Bumrah’s rise, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has made significant strides in the batting rankings. Jaiswal’s 161 in the second innings of the Perth Test saw him leapfrog England’s Harry Brook and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, reaching a career-high second place with 825 rating points, just behind top-ranked Joe Root.
Other notable performances include Virat Kohli’s unbeaten century in the second innings, which lifted him nine spots to 13th, his highest ranking since being outside the top 20 batters for the first time in over a decade. KL Rahul’s 77 in the second innings also saw him rise from 60th to 49th position, while debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy, with scores of 41 and 38*, entered the rankings at 74th.
In terms of Australia’s rankings, Travis Head surged three spots to 10th after his resilient 89 in the second innings. Mitchell Marsh also made a notable jump, climbing 10 places to 68th in the bowling rankings, following his strong performance in the match.
Additionally, in the West Indies’ dominant victory over Bangladesh, players like Alick Athanaze, Jayden Seales, and Kemar Roach made significant ranking improvements. On the other hand, Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed rose 16 spots to 51st in the bowling rankings after his impressive second-innings performance.
In ODI rankings, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan regained the No. 1 spot in the bowling rankings, while Pakistan’s Saim Ayub surged 80 places to 90th after a stunning 113* in an ODI against Zimbabwe.
