Kolkata Case: CBI Investigates Ex-Principle Sandip Ghosh’s Calls and Chats in Rape-Murder Probe
Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is intensifying its probe into the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital by scrutinizing the call details and communications of former principal Sandip Ghosh. Ghosh has been summoned for questioning on consecutive days as the CBI seeks to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
On Sunday, Ghosh was interrogated for over 13 hours, following a similar extended session the previous day. Investigators are focusing on the details of Ghosh’s phone calls before and after the incident, and are considering contacting his mobile service provider for further information on his calls and data usage.
Ghosh was questioned about his actions following the discovery of the doctor’s body, specifically why he delayed informing the victim’s parents by nearly three hours and who authorized the renovation of rooms near the seminar hall where the incident occurred. The CBI is exploring whether there was any premeditation or conspiracy related to the crime.
The agency has already questioned over 20 individuals, including several Kolkata Police officers, and is comparing Ghosh’s responses with those of doctors and interns present at the hospital on the night of the murder.
Ghosh, who resigned from his position two days after the body was discovered, has declined to speak to the media. His resignation came amid fears for his safety, prompting his lawyer to request protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court has advised him to seek a hearing before a single bench.
The body of the post-graduate trainee was found on August 9, and a civic volunteer was arrested the following day in connection with the case.
