New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 examination results, declared on Monday, revealed a significant increase in the number of students scoring above 90 percent and 95 percent marks compared to the previous year, with a rise of over 1,400 and 4,000, respectively.

The overall pass percentage also saw a marginal uptick, climbing to 87.98 percent from last year’s 87.33 percent, with female students notably surpassing male counterparts by a margin of 6.40 percentage points.

CBSE authorities have announced the exclusion of a merit list to deter unhealthy competition among students, alongside the elimination of first, second, and third divisions based on scores.

Sanyam Bhardwaj, CBSE Examination Controller, emphasized, “The CBSE has opted not to publish a merit list in line with its previous decision to mitigate unhealthy competition among students. However, the board will confer merit certificates upon 0.1 percent of students who have achieved the highest marks in various subjects.”

The number of students scoring above 90 percent stands at 1.16 lakh, with 24,068 students surpassing the 95 percent mark. In the previous year, these figures were 1.12 lakh and 22,622, respectively.

Among the high achievers, 262 hail from the Children With Special Needs (CSWN) category, with 43 students achieving above 95 percent. The total number of examinees for the Class 12 examination this year exceeded 16.21 lakh.

Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.91, while the Prayagraj region reported the lowest at 78.25. The compartment category accommodated more than 1.22 lakh students, a slight decrease from 1.25 lakh in the previous year.

CBSE-affiliated schools abroad boasted a pass percentage of 95.84 percent. The Central Tibetan Schools Administration achieved the highest pass percentage at 99.23 percent, followed by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas at 98.90 percent, and Kendriya Vidyalayas at 98.81 percent.

Government-aided and government schools recorded pass percentages of 91.42 percent and 88.23 percent, respectively, while private schools achieved an 87.70 percent pass rate.
