Hyderabad: Rupa Devi, spouse of Choppadandi MLA Dr. Medipally Satyam, was confirmed deceased by hanging at her Alwal residence on Thursday night, as reported by Alwal police.
According to ACP Alwal, around 10 pm, after dinner, she expressed discomfort, retreated to the bedroom, and locked herself in. Concerned family members, upon breaking into the room, discovered her hanging from the ceiling fan with a saree.
She was immediately transported to a private hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Prior to the incident, Rupa Devi had communicated via video call with the MLA, citing her deteriorating health and intention to take her own life.
Upon learning of the tragedy, the MLA rushed from Choppadandi constituency to Hyderabad, arriving after her demise. Her children and mother were present during the incident. No suicide note was found at the scene.
Doctors at Gandhi Hospital confirmed the cause of death as hanging, indicative of suicide. The investigation is ongoing, with the final report to be submitted to Alwal police after completion of formalities.
Following postmortem, the body was handed over to the family and laid to rest at Trimulgherry Secunderabad cemetery.
