Congress and National Conference Leaders Meet in Srinagar to Finalize Seat-Sharing for J-K Assembly Polls
In Srinagar on Monday, senior Congress leaders convened with National Conference (NC) officials to resolve differences over seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
Congress’s delegation, including General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Salman Khurshid, and J-K in-charge Bharat Solanki, met with NC President Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah at their residence in Gupkar. The meeting aimed to address discrepancies that emerged during previous local discussions on seat-sharing.
According to leaders from both parties, significant progress has been made toward finalizing the seat-sharing formula. NC Provincial President for Kashmir, Nasir Aslam Wani, expressed optimism that the issues would be resolved by the afternoon, emphasizing the need for clarity on several points.
Wani assured that the seat-sharing disagreements would not jeopardize the alliance, noting that had the election schedule been known earlier, these issues would have been addressed sooner.
The elections for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly are scheduled to be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the results to be announced on October 4.
