Delhi Suspends In-Person Classes Due to Severe Pollution, Online Classes for Most Students
New Delhi: In response to the worsening air quality in Delhi, the Delhi government has announced the suspension of in-person classes for all students except for those in classes 10 and 12. This decision follows the invocation of Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), effective from Monday morning.
Chief Minister Atishi confirmed the decision, stating that all schools will transition to online classes for the time being. The move comes as Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached hazardous levels, peaking at 457 by Sunday evening, marking the fifth consecutive day of severe pollution.
As part of the pollution control measures, the government has also imposed restrictions on non-essential vehicles, including light commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi, with exceptions for electric and cleaner-fuel vehicles. Additionally, trucks carrying non-essential goods, except those using clean fuels or engaged in essential services, will be barred from entering the city.
The air quality situation remains critical, and authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions.
