Hyderabad: The Delhi Police on Monday issued notices to Telangana CM, PCC president Revanth Reddy and four other Congress leaders on the charge of distorting Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on reservations and making a fake video viral on social media. In the notices, it is stated that he will attend the investigation and give an explanation at the Special Division of the Police in Delhi’s Dwarka sector at 10.30 am on May 1. These notices were issued in the name of Inspector Neeraj Chowdhury of the Special Division of Delhi Police to State Congress Social Media Department Chairman Manne Satish, Coordinator Naveen, PCC Secretary Sivakumar and Spokesperson Asma Taslim. Neeraj Chaudhary handed over these to State Congress legal cell in-charge Ramachandra Reddy at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday. They stated that if those who received the notices do not attend the hearing on May 1, they will face criminal proceedings under CrPC 91/160. The Special Division of Delhi Police said that on 28th of this month, notices are being issued as per the FIR registered under the IT Act as well as Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469 and 171G of the IPC. It is advised to bring the video posted on social media ‘X’ against Amit Shah, the laptop/mobile/tablet used to post it and the electronic device from where the video was taken, at the time of investigation.
This is the background
Amit Shah recently addressed a meeting in the state saying, ‘If the BJP comes to power, we will cancel the unconstitutional Muslim reservations. We will give the rights of SC, ST and OBC to them,’ he said. BJP claims that some people have distorted this and edited the video as if he said that all reservations will be completely abolished. Revanth Reddy also accused BJP in the campaign meetings that if it wins the elections, it will cancel the reservations. Amit Shah clarified that he did not say that reservations will be cancelled. The case was registered based on a complaint given by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHO) along with the BJP to the Delhi Police that he distorted the video and made it viral on social media.
Police focus on Amit Shah’s ‘video source’
Related sources revealed that Delhi Police has written to ‘X’ and other social media companies to know the source of Amit Shah’s video. The intelligence fusion under strategic operations department of the special cell has sought information from social media organizations to find out who spread the video and where the source came from. Assam CM Himanta Biswasharma revealed that one person has been arrested in connection with the case. On the other hand, BJP has complained to the Election Commission that they are promoting deep fake and morphing video regarding Amit Shah and to take strict action against those responsible. BJP State General Secretary Premender Reddy on Monday filed a complaint at the Cybercrime Police Station in Hyderabad, demanding action against the Congress Party, which is circulating a fake video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying that they will remove reservations if they come to power.
