New Delhi: The Delhi Police are not scheduled to visit Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday for questioning his parents in connection with the alleged assault case involving AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, according to sources.
On Wednesday, Kejriwal had announced that the police would be questioning his elderly and unwell parents the following day.
Bibhav Kumar, a close aide of Kejriwal, was arrested by the police in relation to the case.
Sources indicate that while the police may conduct questioning at his residence in the coming days, no visit is planned for Thursday. They further suggest that Kejriwal himself may be questioned in the near future.
In a Hindi-language post on X, Kejriwal stated, “I am awaiting the police along with my parents and wife. Yesterday, the police called and requested a time to interrogate my parents. However, there has been no confirmation yet regarding their visit.” AAP has accused BJP of using the police to harass Kejriwal’s parents.
“Since Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail, the BJP has been unnerved. They are actively targeting Arvind Kejriwal and AAP. Today, by summoning Arvind Kejriwal’s parents for questioning by the Delhi Police, they have crossed all bounds,” remarked Atishi.
Echoing similar sentiments, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh added, “The BJP has now resorted to despicable tactics, using the Delhi Police to mistreat Kejriwal’s elderly and ailing parents. His father, aged 84, is unable to walk unaided and suffers from hearing impairment. His mother had just returned from the hospital two days prior to his arrest, and he was unable to meet her during that time. The people will respond to this through their votes.”
