Hyderabad Experts Advise Self-Care and Diet for PCOS Management During Awareness Month
As September marks PCOS Awareness Month, fertility experts in Hyderabad are urging patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) to prioritize self-care and maintain a healthy diet.
PCOS is a prevalent hormonal disorder affecting individuals with ovaries, commonly during their reproductive years. It is characterized by the presence of multiple small cysts on the ovaries, leading to symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, fertility issues, and elevated androgen levels.
Dr. Parhar, a noted fertility specialist, emphasizes that patients seeking to conceive often turn to in vitro fertilization (IVF), a procedure that involves fertilizing an egg outside the body and then transferring it to the uterus. He advises that even a modest weight loss of 5 percent can significantly improve outcomes for those with PCOS.
“Insulin resistance is a key factor in PCOS, contributing to weight gain and complications. Managing this through exercise and a low-glycemic index diet can be very effective,” Dr. Parhar explained.
He also noted that PCOS can affect individuals who are not overweight or lean, highlighting the importance of a balanced diet and consistent self-care irrespective of body weight.
These recommendations are particularly timely as awareness of PCOS continues to grow, and experts stress the need for holistic approaches to managing the condition.
