Elon Musk Reports Massive Cyber Attack Disrupting X Platform
Elon Musk confirmed on Monday that X (formerly Twitter) suffered a massive cyber attack, causing a global outage and preventing millions of users, including those in India, from accessing the platform.
In a post on X, Musk described the attack as one of the most significant the platform has faced. “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing…” Musk said, adding that the attack was aimed at silencing him and the platform itself.
According to DownDetector, which tracks platform outages, the incident began around 15:00 hours, with users flooding social media platforms to complain. Many users expressed frustration, unable to post tweets or even open pages on X. “Is Twitter down? Anyone getting the same issue? Can’t open the comments section,” one user tweeted, while another added, “Looks like someone really doesn’t want X to thrive. Wonder who’s behind it.”
The cyber attack disrupted the platform for a significant period, with users unable to access its services worldwide. The outage sparked widespread discussions across other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
Musk’s comments on the attack hint at a larger, coordinated effort to target the platform, which was acquired by the billionaire in October 2022 for $44 billion. While outages on X have been rare since the acquisition, the recent disruption highlights the vulnerability of even the most high-profile social media platforms.
In recent months, Musk has also raised the subscription fees for the premium version of X by 35% for both new and existing users globally, including in India, signaling his commitment to monetizing the platform.
The investigation into the cyber attack is ongoing, and Musk’s comments suggest that the full scale and nature of the breach are still being traced.
