Son of Former Pune Deputy Mayor Allegedly Involved in Reckless Driving Incident
Pune: In a disturbing incident on Manjari-Mundhwa Road, Saurabh Gaikwad (25), son of former Pune deputy mayor Bandu Gaikwad and a member of the NCP (SP), reportedly collided his Tata Harrier SUV into a tempo transporting chickens in the early hours of Tuesday, injuring two individuals.
The accident, caught on video and widely circulated on social media, shows Gaikwad’s SUV speeding on the wrong side of the road before crashing into the approaching vehicle. Both occupants of the tempo sustained injuries in the collision.
Police authorities have confirmed that Gaikwad himself suffered injuries in the incident. All three individuals involved were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
“We have filed a complaint against Saurabh Gaikwad for reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road. As he is currently hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash, we have not yet taken him into custody,” stated a police officer familiar with the case.
Further investigation will delve into whether Gaikwad was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, added the officer.
This incident comes amidst heightened concerns over road safety in Pune, following a recent tragedy where two IT professionals lost their lives in a collision involving a speeding Porsche allegedly driven by a minor under the influence of alcohol.
